I had the most miserable night of sleep on Sunday night. Normally, Andrew and I love that one of the architectural elements of a craftsman is lots of natural light. However, when the world's longest thunderstorm is raging outside and you're sleeping in the dining room... suffice to say it wasn't exactly the height of tranquility.
And then there's the nerves. I liken it to the night before Christmas morning (or, if you're in my family, the morning of Christmas Eve, since we do presents before midnight mass). You know that something good is going to happen, but at the same time, you're nervous that it may not be as good as you remember or there may be a big disappointment because you're anticipating that excitement so much. I knew that our project would be complete on Monday evening, but since we'd had two weeks of setbacks, I couldn't help but be cautious with my enthusiasm.
So, on Monday morning, Andrew kissed me goodbye on his way to work and I rolled out of bed ready to get as much done as I possibly could. The poly was set enough for sock feet only (no moving furniture in for 24 hours, so we had to wait until Monday at 6pm), so that meant I could yank up the tape, put our closets back together, and hang up all of our photos. I'd injured my back in all the chemical scraping, so it took nearly all day for me to accomplish these tasks. Around 2, I went to Hobby Lobby to get a new curtain rod for the dining room, since the one we were using was literally held together with electrical tape. I hobbled out of Hobby Lobby and couldn't even find it in me to visit Tropical Sno or Target. That's when I knew it was bad.
Andrew came home a little early, so we made a quick run to a sandwich shop down the street for dinner, and then we got to working. We took a brief break at a quarter til 9pm to get my almighty Tropical Sno (Cherry Pineapple Cheesecake), and then we were back to work. The last item was in place by about 11:45.
And that's that. Now we're back to normal, even though we still have a few projects left: Andrew needs to put on the quarter-round around the baseboards (I didn't get enough because I have awful skills in math, and Andrew is waiting for our handy neighbor to help him with the saw), my Grandma is going to help me with new curtains, and I need to paint our ceiling fan (don't worry - this is a project that I've actually done before in a rental).
After that's done...who am I kidding? We'll figure out a new project.
